| How Sitagliptin- Januvia works |
Sitagliptin phosphate which is also known as januvia has a specific
way of working. When it is ingested in a body in the form of pills
it directly goes into stomach through oesophagus where its
compatibility is reduced and important antibodies are absorbed into
the body through different membranes and fluids. This drug contains
phosphate which forms peptide chain with glucose and thus reducing
the activity of hormones and thus formation of glucagons is also
reduced which in turn increases insulin level up to required amount
as required by diabetic mellitus patient and thus diabetes level is
controlled. It is usually taken after taking meals because meals
contain glucose which increases its level in the body so in turn to
evaluate that level it is taken after the meal.
This drug works by demolishing the effect of enzyme/protein by the
inhibition of it and thus in turn reducing the amount release of
glucagons and also helps in increasing the synthesis and release of
insulin until the glucose level in the blood is restored to normal.
Thus the total overshoot of hypoglycemia which is seen with some
other oral hypoglycemic agents is diminished due to suppressed
glucagons. DPP-4 present in sitagliptin works by inhibiting the
inactivation the incretin GIP and GLP-1. Both, GIP and GLP-1 have a
capability of secreting insulin and suppressing the release of
glucagons by the pancreas. Thus in this way sitagliptin helps in
reducing the over all diabetic problem in a very easy and safe
manner.
