SITAGLIPTIN PHOSPHATE drug widely known as Januvia is the commonly
known drug for the control of diabetes, mainly diabetes mellitus. It
shows some better results than only sitagliptin because the
phosphate attached to it increases its pharmological impact and
these phosphate forms a peptide bond which slows or controls the
activation of hormone incretin which is responsible for the release
of glucagons thus decreases its level and this linkage increases
insulin tropic activity by forming polypeptide bond which increases
its activation level and thus insulin level is increased and thus
these drug is pharmacologically more active.
It can be taken orally and is available in tablet form, its advised dose
is 100mg per day but its dosage is adjusted on the basis of renal
insufficiency i.e. the severity of diabetes. It was approved by FDA
in 2006 and was marked in US as Januvia by Merk & Co. It can be only
given to patients suffering from diabetes mellitus of type 2 not of
type 1 because type 2 is the disorder in which there is lack of
insulin which is adjusted by these drug where as type 1 has reverse
condition it occurs due to excess insulin level hence these drug is
not given to such patients.
It also has some side effects like monotherapy and nasopharyngitis, infection in respiratory tract and
headache but these side effects are not so prominent in accordance
to its excellent result capacity hence such side effects are not
much taken into consideration. Drug interaction of the patient is
calculated on the basis of digoxin level.
